According to the Chinese calendar, this is the year of the dog. Despite this, and what that may mean for billions of people, for the car enthusiasts is the year of the pony. In fact, it’s a very good year for the Mustang enthusiasts indeed.
The aficionados warmly welcomed the current Mustang restyling featuring again the sagging eyes…. a necessary nod to the Mustang heritage, but on top of the cake The Blue Oval delivered the Mustang Bullitt and Mustang GT California Special. If you you’re into retro vibes, please feel free to join the fans ovation.

More thrills
“No doubt, 2019 is an exciting year for Mustang enthusiasts, especially fans of our California Special and BULLITT models,” said Corey Holter, Ford ‘s marketing manager. “This year further targets hardcore enthusiasts who want even more performance from BULLITT, while new technology – including rev-matching on manual transmission-equipped Mustang GT and active valve performance exhaust on the EcoBoost model – means even more thrills.”

Ponies, audio & scoops
Just for the records, being based on the GT, the California Special's 5.0-liter V8 growls trough the active exhaust system and delivers 460 horsepower, while the raging V8 gets 475 ponies on the Bullitt. The dedicated audio system sounds negligible, since most of the people will choose to tune the driver-controlled, fully active exhaust mode.
Since details matter quite a lot, we are eager to find out whether the lateral air scoops between doors and the rear fender on the California Special have any actual function. In other words, those air scoops looks great, but are just a regrettable fake design element or the cherry on top of the cake?
As per Ford designer Mark Conforzi, "Few things are more satisfying than dropping the top on a California Special and taking a drive down the majestic Pacific Coast Highway".

It’s a dilemma, but since the choice is between a sharp fastback, featuring the “just like Steve McQueen effect” and a fast-beautiful cabrio with unique details, you’ll land on your feet.
