Volkswagen electric dune buggy

THERE’S ANYTHING YOU CAN DO?
IF IN THE PAST YOU MADE QUESTIONABLE CHOICES, LIKE THE SWITCH FROM BEETLE’S RWD PLATFORM TO GOLF’S FWD (TRADING THE SOUL FOR MARGINS).
IF YOU'VE BEEN HEAVILY SANCTIONED FOR THE DIESELGATE (AND CUSTOMERS NOTED THAT YOU BREAK THE RULES AND DISREGARDED PEOPLE...AND EVEN INEXPLICABLY RAGED ON DEFENSELESS PRIMATES).
MAYBE THERE’S JUST ONE THING YOU CAN DO:
A DUNE BUGGY

2 minutes read
Germans are worldwide known for making great cars, and in general for management and organizational skills, so let’s try to be precise.

In recent times, Volkswagen’s reputation has been affected by a couple of things:

  1. Being known for a cost-effective strategy about sharing FWD platforms among the Group.
  2. Being caught eluding pollution regulations (by using an industrial scaled cheating device).

As if this was not enough, maybe to prove that there was room to screw things even more than that....it turned out that somebody also messed-up with…unarmed monkeys. Facepalm.

The above, according to few analysts, could have affected the brand’s perception, making this be felt as “not truly bonded” respectively to:

  1. drivers
  2. rules
  3. humanity (meaning customers and breathing people in general)
  4. animals (monkeys in particular )

Now imagine to be a member of VW board of directors: you have the subtle feeling that the situation is quite delicate.
What could the company do to have a fresh start after things went south?
If you aim to restore your brand perception and want people not focus on the above-mentioned behaviors (to be precise) respectively:

A) boring
B) illegal
C) immoral
D) spooky

can the answer be just a Christmas card?
YES! Whether said card hints to an electric Dune Buggy.

The eBuggy is coming to Wolfsburg

The business case seems to be there, thanks to the ID platform and because small SUVs are totally trending.
If you catch my drift, an electric Dune Buggy, first and foremost would be a brilliant halo car for Volkswagen: in fact, it is exactly the opposite of what they’ve done in the recent past. It would be:

  1. Playful (being based on a rear-engine, RWD platform)
  2. “Clean” sort of (being electric powered)

But above everything, it would be a very much needed, joyful Volkswagen.
