The Bmw R nine T Scrambler hits the road (and the market) priced 14.000,00 €. It's premium, not cheap but its nearly 2000 euros less than the R nineT (currently rebadged R nine T Roadster) so at the end is more affordable.
The Bmw R nine T Scrambler is based on the R nine T platform featuring several differences adopted in order to reduce the costs (and enhance some off-road skills).
The rear 180 mm wide wheel has been replaced by a 170 mm. A steel tank replaced the aluminium one and the upside down fork has been replaced by a traditional one. The same happened for the radial brakes, but don't panic!
On the bright side, this changes don't impact the bike behaviour in a negative way.
Moreover, the Scrambler gained some features the Roadster itself hasn't. The Scrambler is already Euro 4 compliant, features a higher, more comfortable riding position and last but not least, the R nine T Scrambler wears tubeless tyres. Incredibly the posh R nine T has classic spoked rims that require the tubes. The R nine T Scrabler features basic alloy rims, but with extra 400 € you can get the evoluted tubeless spoked rims. This ones look quite classic but are modern and more safe.
The great response delivered by the legendary air cooled boxer engine is the same we used to know despite of the Euro 4 homologation. Moreover, the Scrambler's riding position is really a nice surprice. Compared to the R nine T, the handlebar is higher and nearer (thanks to new risers and the new 19 inches front tyre) and the seat height is at 82 cm (versus the 78.5 of the Roadster).
The traditional (Showa) front suspension, and rear (supplied by Sachs) show an increased excursion.
All this combined, deliver a natural, smooth behaviour to the bike.
Compared with the R nine T Roadster it is just a bit less performance oriented and a little less glamourous, but it is more poliedric and consistant. We could say "essential" positive sense.
And uh, yes the BRAAP from the double Akrapovich exhaust is still there!
